Mammoth online retailer Amazon is stretching out into video game development, with a focus on free-to-play, social games. Its first release is titled Living Classics, a Facebook game that looks to appeal to the pre-teen audience.
In Living Classics, the aim is for the player to click on moving objects within scenes from classic children’s stories including Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz. There are also Wild West, Ancient Greece, and other themed scenes to explore. The quicker and more accurately you click on the moving objects, the higher your score. Also hidden around the levels are foxes – find these for extra points.
Living Classics contains all the usual elements you’ll find in Facebook games: limited energy that only replenishes after certain amounts of time, constant invitations to share your progress with friends and advantages from having your friends play along, too. The target audience appears to be the under 10s, which doesn’t match up at all with the age requirement for Facebook accounts – thirteen. To have a go at the game for yourself, head on over to the Living Classics Facebook app.
Amazon is hiring further games developers so expect more releases later in the year.
