Wreck-It Ralph keeps on getting more and more interesting with every little tidbit we hear! Not only will the film be Disney’s first feature-length foray into 8-bit style animation, we are now hearing that it will also feature cameos from several classic video game characters!
After attending a special preview at CinemaCon, Slash Film confirmed that the six-minute opening sequence (aired as part of the event’s procedures) includes bit-parts from several beloved game characters.
The scene, which is set in a support group for video game villains will reportedly feature cameos from the following characters:
- Bowser – Super Mario Bros
- Doctor Eggman – Sonic the Hedgehog
- Kano – Mortal Kombat
- A Ghost – Pac-Man
- Zangief – Street Fighter
- Coily the Snake – Q*bert
It’s really impressive that Disney managed to secure the rights to some of these properties – Nintendo especially is notorious for its exclusivity and tight-fistedness with intellectual property (a policy that could be partly to blame for their recently announced record losses). However they managed it, we at Hypable are really excited to see Disney’s seemingly refreshing take on animation.
The film, starring John C Reilly, will be released Feb. 2015.
