We finally know what that countdown on the Baldur’s Gate website was counting down to: an update of the original classic from Bioware.
Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is being developed by Beamdog with Overhaul Games taking the lead and is scheduled to release this summer, though specific platforms were not announced.
Beamdog was quick to point out to Joystiq that the enhanced edition is not just an HD remake of the original game, but that it will include “new, original content,” and that “it’s not a repackage. We have the original source code and are doing a significant update.”
For those of you worried, Beamdog assure the game is in good hands and “it’s being lovingly crafted in the spirit of the original with the help of some of the original developers.”
It was also announced Baldur’s Gate II is set to receive the same treatment, presumably after the first one releases.
