A few weeks ago we Sony announced Pottermore for Playstation Home, offering a MMORPG-like gaming experience for Harry Potter fans.
Today, Pottermore officially opened on the video game device.
Pottermore for Playstation Home offers fans a three-dimensional Diagon Alley to explore. In development for two years with Pottermore, the Home version offers mini-games and activities you’ll be able to find as you walk around the virtual world.
The primary game appears to be Book Herding. As the Playstation Blog describes it, “round up a consignment of escaped magical books and return them to their cages before any of the other players. Be careful though, your opponents will be out to stop you, using spells and general craftiness to impede your progress and scatter your books at the most inopportune moments.”
Other activities include a quiz you can participate in with up to six friends while riding the Hogwarts Express. “The first to ten correct answers wins,” says Sony. “If more than one player gets to ten correct answers at the same time, you’ll enter tiebreaker mode!”
Pottermore for Playstation Home looks like a nice experience if you have a Playstation 3 and are looking to kill some time in a Harry Potter world, but this should hardly be considering a real Harry Potter video game by any means. We also have difficulty seeing its connection to J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore website. We wish it mimicked all of Pottermore.com’s features: getting sorted, getting a wand, exploring moments (with new material by Rowling), etc. Hopefully some of the features will be available on Playstation Home in time.
