First trailer for movie shown at SDCC, filming begins next year

by Anna Roberts

San Diego Comic-Con attendees were treated to the first trailer for Warcraft, the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the wildly popular Warcraft gaming franchise.

Attendees were not allowed to film the trailer, but several sources have uploaded trailer descriptions.

Collider describes the first Warcraft trailer as being set in an “alien-looking desert,” where a human warrior draws a “magnificent sword” and a “fancy-looking shield.”

Our warrior begins circling an unseen enemy, which is quickly revealed to be “an orc wielding a giant battle axe.” They charge forward, and cut to the titlecard – Warcraft.

Ain’t It Cool and io9 also provide in-depth descriptions. Russ Fischer of /Film tweeted his description:

WARCRAFT announced with teaser that shows a little human/orc battle footage. Strong Western vibe. @ManMadeMoon made a neat-lookinm afraid.

- Duncan Jones (@ManMadeMoon) July 20, 2015

After the trailer was shown, Jones spoke briefly to those in attendance and revealed that filming for Warcraft would begin in early 2015. That means we can expect a release sometime in 2015.

The description of the mood piece seems promising. Do you think a Western tone and the Warcraft video game franchise will combine to make a good movie?
