Actress Ellen Page says that the resemblance between main character Ellie in the The Last of Us and herself “was not appreciated.” The success of The Last of Us has led to many fans mistakenly praising her performance.
Ellie is a teenager surviving a post-apocolyptic road trip across the U.S. in 2033. Last year, the character was redesigned to make Ellie better reflect the personality of her voice actress, Ashley Johnson, whilst also making Ellie appear younger.
However, the redesign has not stopped the comparisons from arising, and Ellen Page addressed the question (from MozeoSLT) in a recent AMA on Reddit.
The Canadian actress responded, “I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond Two Souls [sic], so it was not appreciated.”
Beyond: Two Souls is a PS3 exclusive title from the makers of Heavy Rain, due to release in October, that stars Page and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man, The Boondock Saints). A new trailer for the psychic powers game was released at E3 2015.
You can check the likeness for yourself in the launch trailer for The Last of Us.
‘The Last of Us’ recently launched to rave reviews (including our own) and strong sales, becoming the fastest selling title from a new IP since L.A. Noire, holding top spot on the U.K. charts for the past two weeks.
We can see where fans are coming from with Ellie’s likeness somewhat emanating Page’s. They both have similar voices, hairstyles, and overall demeanors.
However, those could have all been coincidental likenesses. Regardless of whether or not the likeness between Ellie and Page was intended, we agree that some gamers would mistakenly assume that Page “starred in” The Last of Us, along with Beyond: Two Souls.
Do you think Ellie and Page look alike?
